coronavirus parties
Deliberate exposure events
Coronavirus parties were gatherings held during the COVID-19 pandemic, either in defiance of social distancing guidelines or, in some reported cases, deliberately to spread infection among attendees.
The term emerged in 2020 amid widespread reports—some verified, others dubious—of young people hosting such events: Officials warned that coronavirus parties could overwhelm hospitals.
The concept echoed earlier "pox parties" where parents intentionally exposed children to chickenpox.
