containment lines
Wildfire defense perimeters
Containment lines are barriers cleared or constructed to stop the spread of wildfires.
Firefighters cut these boundaries down to mineral soil, removing all vegetation and combustible material to create a gap the fire cannot cross.
Progress is measured as a percentage: The fire is forty percent contained.
Also called fire lines or control lines.
