command decision

Top-brass call

A command decision is a choice made by someone in authority, especially under pressure or when time is short.

The term comes from military contexts where commanding officers must make consequential calls without consulting others: Someone had to make a command decision, so I told everyone to evacuate.

It often implies accepting responsibility for outcomes.
