come close

Almost reach it

Come close means to nearly achieve or match something, often falling just short: She came close to winning the championship.

It can describe physical proximity—Come close so I can see you—but more often captures the sense of almost reaching a goal, approximating a quality, or narrowly avoiding an outcome: We came close to disaster.

Nothing else comes close means nothing rivals or approaches the thing in question.
