cloud base
Where clouds start
Cloud base is the altitude at which the bottom of a cloud forms, where rising air cools enough for water vapor to condense.
Pilots and meteorologists use cloud base to assess visibility and flight conditions: The cloud base dropped to 500 feet, forcing us to divert.
A low cloud base often means poor visibility and difficult flying weather.
