cleaning station

Where fish detox

A cleaning station is a location where small fish or shrimp remove parasites, dead skin, and debris from larger fish.

These spots on coral reefs or other underwater features attract fish seeking grooming, creating predictable gathering places where the cleaners work and the clients hold still: The diver watched a moray eel waiting patiently at the cleaning station.

The term also applies more prosaically to any designated area for cleaning equipment or surfaces.
