civil judgment
Non-criminal court decision
A civil judgment is a court's official decision in a lawsuit between private parties, as opposed to criminal proceedings brought by the government.
It determines liability and typically orders one party to pay damages, fulfill a contract, or take some other action.
The civil judgment against the company required it to compensate all affected customers.
Once entered, a civil judgment becomes a matter of public record and can be enforced through wage garnishment, property liens, or other legal mechanisms.
