cheeping

Baby bird calling

Cheeping is the high-pitched, repetitive sound made by young birds, especially chicks and nestlings: The cheeping from the nest grew louder as the mother bird approached.

The word imitates the sound itself.

By extension, any thin, squeaky vocalization might be called cheeping: We heard cheeping from the box and found a litter of kittens.
