channel scan
Automated station search
A channel scan is the automatic process by which a television or radio searches through available frequencies to detect and store receivable stations.
Most TVs prompt users to run a channel scan during initial setup or after moving to a new location: I had to do a channel scan after connecting the antenna.
Rescanning is necessary when broadcasters change frequencies.
