ceramic blade
Fired clay edge
A ceramic blade is a knife blade made from zirconium oxide rather than steel.
Ceramic blades hold their edge far longer than metal and won't corrode, but they're brittle and can chip or shatter if dropped or used on hard materials like bone.
Common in kitchen knives where sharpness matters more than durability: I use a ceramic blade for slicing tomatoes.
