catalog card
Book finding aid
A catalog card is a small rectangular card, typically three by five inches, used in library card catalogs to record information about a book or other item in the collection.
Each card lists details like title, author, subject, and call number.
Before computerized systems, researchers located library materials by flipping through drawers of alphabetically arranged catalog cards.
The format became so standardized that catalog card also describes any similarly structured reference entry.
