canning lids
Preserve jar covers
Canning lids are flat metal discs with a rubberized sealing compound around the edge, used to seal glass jars for home food preservation.
The lid sits on the jar's rim and is held in place by a threaded metal band during processing.
Heat creates a vacuum that pulls the lid down, forming an airtight seal.
Unlike the reusable bands, standard canning lids are designed for single use—the sealing compound doesn't reliably grip twice.
