butler's tray
Hinged portable surface
A butler's tray is a rectangular serving tray with hinged sides that fold up for carrying and fold down flat when set on a stand.
The design allows a servant—or anyone—to transport dishes securely, then create an impromptu side table: She set the drinks on the butler's tray by the sofa.
