bridge opening
Passage beneath structure
A bridge opening is a gap in a bridge's structure that allows passage—of water beneath, of ships through a drawbridge, or of traffic through an arch.
The term also refers to the inaugural ceremony when a new bridge is first opened to the public: The mayor cut the ribbon at the bridge opening.
In card games, particularly bridge, an opening is the first bid or lead that begins play.
