boot device
System initialization source
A boot device is the hardware component from which a computer loads its operating system when starting up.
This is typically an internal hard drive or solid-state drive, but can be a USB drive, optical disc, or network location.
BIOS or firmware settings determine which device the system checks first: I changed the boot device to install Linux from a USB stick.
