bonus ball
Lottery's additional number
A bonus ball is an additional number drawn in lottery games after the main set, used to determine secondary prizes.
In the UK National Lottery, for instance, six main numbers are drawn, then a bonus ball that matters only if you've matched five.
The term sometimes extends to anything extra or unexpected: Consider that a bonus ball.
