block scheduling
Longer class sessions
Block scheduling is a system of organizing school days into longer class periods—typically 80 to 120 minutes—instead of the traditional 45- to 55-minute periods.
Students take fewer classes per day but spend more time in each: With block scheduling, I only have four classes a day instead of seven.
The approach allows for deeper engagement with material and fewer daily transitions, though critics argue students may forget content between longer gaps in instruction.
