blackout drinking
Amnesia from alcohol
Blackout drinking is consuming alcohol to the point where memory formation fails—you remain conscious and functional but later have no recollection of events.
The blackout refers to the gap in memory, not loss of consciousness.
Someone might carry on conversations, make decisions, or travel home with no memory of it afterward: I must have been blackout drinking because I don't remember leaving the bar.
