beer leaguers
Casual adult athletes
Beer leaguers are amateur athletes who play in recreational sports leagues, typically hockey, softball, or basketball.
The term suggests players more interested in camaraderie and post-game drinks than competitive excellence: The beer leaguers hit the bar after their Thursday night game.
The play is casual, the stakes low, and the roster often includes out-of-shape former high school athletes.
