Bee sting cake is a German pastry (Bienenstich) made of yeasted dough filled with vanilla custard or cream and topped with caramelized almonds.
The name supposedly comes from a baker who was stung by a bee attracted to the honey glaze: We shared a slice of bee sting cake at the café.
