bauds
Modem speed measures
Bauds is the plural of baud, a unit measuring the rate of data transmission, specifically the number of signal changes or symbols transmitted per second.
Named after telegraph pioneer Émile Baudot, the term was essential in the era of dial-up modems, where connection speeds were often described in bauds.
My first modem ran at 2400 bauds.
In modern usage, bits per second has largely replaced bauds for measuring data rates, though the terms were once used interchangeably.
