basset hounds
Long-eared scent trackers
Basset hounds are a breed of short-legged hunting dog with long drooping ears, loose skin, and a mournful expression.
Originally bred in France for tracking rabbits and hares, their low-slung bodies keep their powerful noses close to the ground.
The name comes from the French word for "low." The basset hound bayed when it caught the scent.
