ballistic resistance
Stopping projectile penetration
Ballistic resistance is a material's ability to withstand impact from projectiles—bullets, shrapnel, or other high-velocity objects.
The term appears in specifications for body armor, vehicle plating, and protective glass: The vest offers Level IIIA ballistic resistance.
Materials are rated by what caliber and velocity they can stop without penetration.
- armorProtective combat covering
- bulletproofResistant to gunfire
- KevlarProtective synthetic fiber
- shrapnelScattered explosion fragments
- impactForceful contact or consequence
