bad money
Currency not genuine
Bad money is currency that's counterfeit, debased, or otherwise inferior to legitimate tender.
The phrase appears most often in Gresham's law: bad money drives out good—when two currencies circulate, people hoard the more valuable one and spend the inferior, eventually leaving only bad money in circulation.
