at-ease

Military relaxation command

At-ease is a military command allowing soldiers to relax from the position of attention.

The stance permits shifting weight and moving slightly while remaining in place.

Outside military contexts, at-ease describes a relaxed, comfortable state: He seemed perfectly at-ease among strangers.

The hyphenated form typically modifies nouns: an at-ease posture.
