antique frame
Aged artwork enclosure
An antique frame is a picture frame of considerable age, typically at least a hundred years old, valued for its craftsmanship, materials, or historical style.
The term also applies to newer frames made to resemble period pieces: She found an antique frame at the flea market for her grandmother's portrait.
Collectors prize ornate gilded frames from specific eras—Baroque, Victorian, Art Nouveau.
