angels of mercy
Benevolent healing figures
Angels of mercy are people who provide comfort, care, or relief to those who are suffering, particularly the sick or dying.
The phrase most often describes nurses, hospice workers, or others who tend to people in medical distress with exceptional compassion.
In a darker usage, it can refer to healthcare workers who kill patients, supposedly to end their suffering—such criminals are sometimes called angel of mercy killers.
The singular angel of mercy applies to any individual who arrives to help in a desperate situation.
