all points bulletin
Cop broadcast, urgent
An all points bulletin is an urgent broadcast from law enforcement alerting officers across a wide area to watch for a suspect, vehicle, or missing person.
The term comes from police radio practice, where "all points" means all stations or units.
Often abbreviated APB: Police issued an APB for the stolen vehicle.
The phrase sometimes appears figuratively for any widespread alert: HR put out an all points bulletin about the new policy.
