An airline alliance is a partnership among multiple airlines to coordinate routes, share booking systems, and honor each other's frequent flyer programs.
The three major global alliances—Star Alliance, Oneworld, and SkyTeam—allow passengers to book connecting flights across member carriers and accumulate miles regardless of which airline operates each leg: I flew three different carriers but earned miles on one account because they're in the same alliance.
