Airfares are the prices charged for airline tickets.
The term usually appears in discussions of travel costs or comparisons between carriers: Airfares have dropped since last summer, I'm watching airfares to Tokyo.
Unlike most plural nouns, airfares rarely refers to countable individual items—it functions more as a mass noun describing pricing in general.
