An air boss is the officer responsible for all aircraft operations on an aircraft carrier's flight deck—controlling launches, landings, and the movement of planes and personnel.
The air boss works from a control tower called Primary Flight Control, overseeing one of the most dangerous workplaces in the military: The air boss cleared the deck for landing.
