aid in dying
Medically hastened passing
Aid in dying is the practice of providing terminally ill patients with medication to end their own lives, distinguished from euthanasia in that the patient self-administers the lethal dose.
The phrase is preferred by advocates over "assisted suicide" or "physician-assisted suicide," which carry negative connotations: The state legalized aid in dying for patients with less than six months to live.
Also called medical aid in dying (MAID).
