advertence

Deliberate mental focus

Advertence is the act of directing attention to something, or the state of being attentive.

The word is formal and uncommon, appearing mainly in philosophical or theological contexts where precise distinctions about mental states matter: Full moral responsibility requires advertence to the wrongness of the act.

The more common form is inadvertence—lack of attention or care.
