acquaintance rape
Assault by someone known
Acquaintance rape is rape committed by someone the victim knows—a friend, date, coworker, or classmate—as distinguished from assault by a stranger.
The term emerged in the 1980s to name a crime often minimized or disbelieved because it didn't fit the stereotype of a masked attacker in an alley: Most campus rapes are acquaintance rapes.
Date rape is a related term focusing specifically on romantic or social outings.
