Wellington boot

Waterproof garden shoe

A Wellington boot is a waterproof rubber boot reaching to the knee or just below, worn for wet or muddy conditions.

Originally leather riding boots named after the Duke of Wellington, the modern rubber version became standard farm and garden footwear in Britain.

Usually called Wellingtons or wellies in British English: Don't forget your wellies—it's muddy out there.

Americans more often say rain boots or rubber boots.
