Waco siege
Davidian compound standoff
The Waco siege was a 1993 standoff between federal agents and the Branch Davidians, a religious sect, at their compound near Waco, Texas.
After a botched raid by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the FBI laid siege for 51 days.
The standoff ended when fire engulfed the compound, killing 76 people including sect leader David Koresh.
The incident became a rallying point for anti-government movements and influenced the Oklahoma City bombing two years later.
