Vanity Fair

Celebrity culture bible

Vanity Fair originally names the worldly, frivolous marketplace in John Bunyan's 1678 allegory *Pilgrim's Progress*, where all manner of vanities are bought and sold.

The phrase now refers broadly to the world of fashion, wealth, and superficial social pursuits: the glittering vanity fair of Manhattan's Upper East Side.

It's also the title of Thackeray's satirical novel and a prominent magazine covering celebrity and culture.
