Upper Midwest
Minnesota's broader region
The Upper Midwest is the north-central region of the United States, typically including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and often the Dakotas, Iowa, and parts of Illinois.
The term evokes harsh winters, lakes, Scandinavian heritage, and a distinctive accent: She moved from Texas to the Upper Midwest and had to buy a real winter coat.
