Turkish towel

A Turkish towel is a towel made from terry cloth—the looped, absorbent cotton fabric that became the standard for bath towels.

The term distinguished these from flat-woven towels when terry cloth first became widely available.

Now that most towels are terry, the phrase sounds old-fashioned: She wrapped herself in a thick Turkish towel.
