Teresa of Avila
Spanish mystical nun
Teresa of Avila was a sixteenth-century Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic, and reformer who became one of Christianity's most influential spiritual writers.
Her works, including *The Interior Castle* and *The Way of Perfection*, describe the soul's journey toward union with God through contemplative prayer.
She founded numerous reformed convents and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1970, one of the first women so honored.
Her feast day is October 15.
