Southeast Asians
Tropical archipelago inhabitants
Southeast Asians are people from or descended from those in Southeast Asia—a region including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Brunei, and East Timor.
The term distinguishes this population from East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and South Asians (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi): The refugee wave brought many Southeast Asians to California.
In American usage, Southeast Asian often surfaces in discussions of immigration, cuisine, or the Vietnam War era.
