Shintoist
Japanese shrine practitioner
A Shintoist is a practitioner of Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan centered on reverence for kami—spirits inhabiting natural phenomena, ancestors, and sacred places.
The term appears more in Western writing than in Japan itself, where religious identity is often fluid: Many Japanese are both Shintoists and Buddhists.
