Seattle SuperSonics

Oklahoma City's predecessor

The Seattle SuperSonics were a professional basketball team in the NBA from 1967 to 2008, when the franchise relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder.

The name referenced Seattle's aerospace industry, particularly Boeing.

Fans still refer to the team nostalgically: I grew up watching the Sonics.

Often shortened to Sonics.
