Mrs Bennet
Mrs Bennet is a character from Jane Austen's novel *Pride and Prejudice*, the mother of five daughters whose singular obsession is seeing them married to wealthy men.
The name has become shorthand for a certain type of anxious, scheming mother focused entirely on her children's matrimonial prospects: She's being such a Mrs Bennet about her son's new girlfriend.
The character is known for her nerves, her lack of social grace, and her relentless matchmaking.
