Monday-morning quarterback

After-the-fact analyst

A Monday-morning quarterback is someone who criticizes decisions after the outcome is known—named for fans who second-guess football plays the day after Sunday games.

The term applies broadly to anyone offering hindsight wisdom: It's easy to be a Monday-morning quarterback, but none of us saw it coming.

The verb form is Monday-morning quarterbacking.
