Minnesota accent
Upper Midwest speech
A regional American English dialect associated with Minnesota and neighboring Upper Midwest states, characterized by elongated vowels, a distinctive "o" sound (as in *boat* or *don't ya know*), and Scandinavian-influenced intonation patterns.
The accent is often affectionately parodied, as in the film *Fargo*: Her Minnesota accent came out stronger when she talked to her relatives back home.
Features include *uff da* as an exclamation and rising sentence-final intonation that can make statements sound like questions.
