Mexican-American culture
Tejano and beyond
Mexican-American culture is the blend of Mexican heritage and American experience that emerged in the United States, particularly in the Southwest.
It encompasses distinctive traditions in food (Tex-Mex cuisine), music (conjunto, Chicano rock), art (muralism), language (code-switching between Spanish and English), and celebrations like Día de los Muertos adapted to American contexts.
The culture reflects both immigrant experience and indigenous roots predating U.S. borders: Growing up in Mexican-American culture meant quinceañeras and Fourth of July in the same household.
