K-9 units
Canine law enforcement
K-9 units are police or military teams that pair a trained dog with a handler.
The dogs—typically German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois—detect drugs, explosives, or missing persons, and may pursue or subdue suspects. "K-9" is a phonetic spelling of "canine": The K-9 unit tracked the suspect through the woods.
