James Herriot
James Herriot is the pen name of James Alfred Wight, a British veterinarian whose memoirs of rural practice in Yorkshire became beloved books: *All Creatures Great and Small*, *All Things Bright and Beautiful*, and others.
His warm, humorous accounts of treating farm animals and pets in the English countryside defined a genre of gentle pastoral memoir.
I spent the summer reading James Herriot.
