The Hexi Corridor is a narrow strip of land in northwestern China, stretching about 1,000 kilometers through Gansu Province between mountain ranges and the Gobi Desert.
This passage served as the critical route for the ancient Silk Road, connecting China proper with Central Asia.
The name means "west of the Yellow River" in Chinese.
